Ever spent a day writing on a typewriter in a freezing cold studio while you had to pretend it wasn’t cold at all? If the answer to that question was yes, I am sorry that you had to go through that… But it means you can empathise with the excellent cast and crew that worked on this short.
This one, while it seems simple, had a lot of moving parts to it. Literally, and figuratively. For example, finding the perfect looking typewriter proved challenging until a lucky series of events landed a broken one on Ian’s doorstep. It was repaired to get set ready and then tactically broken to jam when needed for the plot. The entire set also had to be built, and finding the space that would bring this isolated writer to life took longer than you might expect. On top of those, every note on the wall was handwritten, every bit of garbage on the floor hand prepped, and the entire script was typed out by hand without making a single mistake.
As this is a deeply meta, abstract film, there are tons and tons of easter eggs throughout. I will spoil none of them of course. Sorry.
